New York in pictures

Some of my NY pictures. There are many more, but these are the images that come to mind when I remember NY.

1) NY's skyline on a dull, gray evening. The Brooklyn bridge in the forefront lights up the atmosphere a bit. The bridge was built in the 1870s and opened up in 1883. It has always been lit up since its first days, thanks to a gentleman named Edison who lived down the lane.

2) Live music near Pier 17 where you board the river cruise. Music always sounds heavenly with water around - even grunge. The beer flows thick and fast here...Anheuser Busch should consider a pipeline for Budweiser and Bud Light.

3) Times Square at its loudest best. There's always a buzz in the air and vibrancy all around even on the dullest of afternoons.

4) Wall Street. Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, WaMu and Merrill Lynch might have gone, but this place will still hold its prominence. The hallowed ground where Benjamin Graham, Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan and their ilk plied their trade can't lie low for too long.

5) A view from the top of the Rockefeller center ("Top of the Rock") shows the expanse of Central Park in an area that is otherwise the most densely vertical mass of concrete, steel and glass I've ever seen.

6) Another view from the Top of the Rock. The Empire State Building with entrances on 33rd, 34th street and Fifth Avenue dwarfs the rest of the skyline.

More to follow...

Pretty neat!

I always thought NYC was over-hyped till I actually went there. Although I was there was just about 3-4 days but fell in love with the place.

Looking forward to more pictures.

Scribble - I agree with Mademoiselle here...the photos just wont prepare you for the real thing (which obviously is much better). You cant capture the energy levels in photos, and that's the best part of the city.

Jhayu - my turn to say Welcome, mate!

Nice!!! D'you have any of Central Park by any chance?

Shalom - sorry, no. I have no snaps of the interiors of Central Park. We had good intentions of going there for an early morning jog but they remained just intentions :-)

uAWESOME! you said there were more to follow....where are they? Also, I think you click really well. :-)

That top-view of the Rockerfeller building....MAN!

Mukta- more coming soon. This weekend. I have some pathetic blurred shots of the skyline which will make you hastily retract your positive comments about the quality of the photos. I won't post those, of course.

Thomas Edison was a New Yorker? :-) didnt know that...

Mukta: If by "New Yorker" you mean anybody who lived there but need not have been born there, then Edison was a hardcore New Yorker. He was also known as the Wizard of Menlo Park, and Menlo Park is in New Jersey..some 30 minutes away. His main projects were on Manhattan Island.

Btw, there's an iconic hotel called the New Yorker on 34th Street. Another famous inventor Nikola Tesla lived there for 10 years (in the hotel) and died there. He was the guy who discovered AC (Alternating Current).

So a lot of Physics seemed to be happening in NY...they were both contemporaries.
